Magnus Chase – COMING SOON!

A new series from Rick Riordan? Oh no, not again! It’s not like I’m emotionally stable enough to go through a new series, or am I? Let’s be excited together for Magnus Chase!

Hello guys,

it’s the middle of September and do you know what that means? Yes, not only that autumn is around the corner (how obvious) but also that the release of Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard is close (October 6th in the United States). Since I hope you all have read the Percy Jackson series – and if I’m lucky here – also the Heroes of Olympus series, I’m pretty sure you are as excited as I am.

First of all here is the cover of the book we all will hold in our hands very soon. I’m pretty sure a few of you already have seen it, but here’s the cover as a reminder. What do you think of it? Like it, despise it?

The nice thing is that it fits so well with the previous covers related to the Percy Jackson world – Kane chronicles included because they are also situated in the Percy Jackson world. What I also dig about the cover are the colors, they fit really well together and give the story a mysterious touch. Also it will leave us guessing about the key image – probably the sword of summer – and what Magnus Chase will have to do with it.

My guess about Magnus Chase is, that he’s gonna be the son of a summer god. I’m probably stating the obvious, but hear me out: Sword of Summer? Blonde Hair? Magnus Chase is levitating the sword? I’m not really familiar with the Norse Mythology and if there’s gonna be a Summer god, so what do you think about it? It pretty much looks like the sword is choosing Magnus, such as a wand chooses a wizard. Or if I want to stay in the Percy Jackson universe: how a Greek God is accepting his/her child.

And last, but not least, here is the summary about The Sword of Summer from goodreads. Read it and prepare for the worst:

Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother’s mysterious death, he’s lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers.
One day, he’s tracked down by a man he’s never met—a man his mother claimed was dangerous. The man tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god.
The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday. To prevent Ragnarok, Magnus must search the Nine Worlds for a weapon that has been lost for thousands of years.

When an attack by fire giants forces him to choose between his own safety and the lives of hundreds of innocents, Magnus makes a fatal decision. Sometimes, the only way to start a new life is to die . . .

Yay, you have to die to start a new life? Sounds like a pretty good life-wrecking book to me, Mr. Riordan. Well done, I mean I never really got over the fact what you have done to Percy and Annabeth in The House of Hades, so yeah. Thank you. This is going to be great. Or something like that.

So, I hope I haven’t totally wrecked you with the last paragraph and you are still excited to read The Summer Sword by Rick Rioardan. I’m going to review it as good as possible when it’s released and I hope to read you again soon!

  1. First off… Shame on me because I have not finished Heroes of Olympus (yep, I’m already hiding in a corner). But this one sounds good!! I had no idea he was writing something new but now I’m excited. No idea when I will read it but I surely will sooner or later 🙂
